CAPE WOMAN WINS TOP NATIONAL STAMP AWARD
Nancy Clark of Marstons Mills and Woods Hole to be honored next month in Hartford

A Marstons Mills woman with a lifetime of accomplishment in stamp collecting has been chosen to receive the nation’s most prestigious philatelic award.
Nancy B. Clark will receive the 2008 Luff Award for Exceptional Contributions to Philately from the American Philatelic Society at its annual meeting August 16 in Hartford. The honor has been presented annually for more than 60 years to living philatelists with meritorious contributions to the hobby.
“I’m honored and humbled,” said Clark from her seasonal home in Woods Hole. “I will accept it on behalf of the millions whose lives have been enriched by philately.”
For more than 30 years, Clark has led a national drive to encourage children and young people to take up stamp collecting. A retired teacher, she has organized youth exhibits at major national and international hobby shows for more than 20 years. In addition, Clark has served on numerous international exhibiting juries.
An accomplished philatelist in her own right, Clark and her husband, retired University of Georgia math professor Douglas Clark, have won exhibiting medals worldwide.
A founding member and past president of the Cape Cod Area Philatelic Group and a director of the Cardinal Spellman Philatelic Museum at Regis College in Weston, she is also a director of the Massachusetts Postal Research Society and host of a weekly national stamp program online at http://www.wsradio.com/.
In addition to her philatelic work, Clark is a member of the Barnstable Historical Commission, treasurer of the Woods Hole Historical Museum and past House Committee Chair of the Woods Hole Yacht Club.
Clark’s collecting specialties include postal history of Maine where she was raised.
